No- and low-alcohol cocktails for Dry January
Take the spirit out of a drink with bold flavours and most of the taste is still there.
Zero-proof: no alcohol at all
These are classics with the spirit taken out. Tomato, ginger or mint carries the flavour in each, so you miss the spirit less.

Zero-proof
Virgin Mary
The Bloody Mary without the vodka: 3 oz tomato juice, a dash of lemon juice, ½ barspoon of Worcestershire sauce and 2 drops of Tabasco, shaken and strained over fresh ice, with a celery stalk.
-
Zero-proof
Virgin Mule
The Moscow Mule without the vodka: ½ oz lime juice and 4 oz ginger beer over ice, with a lime wedge.
-
Zero-proof
Virgin Mojito
0.75 oz lime juice, ½ oz simple syrup and 8 mint leaves, gently muddled in a highball, then topped with soda water over ice.
Low-alcohol: for a lighter January
If you're cutting down rather than stopping, these use sherry, vermouth and bitter aperitifs instead of a full-strength spirit.

1½ oz oloroso sherry, 1½ oz sweet vermouth and 2 dashes of orange bitters, stirred and served in a coupe. The Bamboo's darker, nuttier sibling.

About 9% ABV
Americano
1 oz Campari and 1 oz sweet vermouth over ice, topped with 2 oz soda water. The Campari keeps it bitter.
