Blood and Sand

Bartenders tie the name to Rudolph Valentino’s 1922 bullfighter film, and the recipe was in print by 1930, in the Savoy Cocktail Book. Scotch and orange juice shouldn’t work in one glass, but this one is an exception.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz 30 mlBlended Scotch
  • 1 oz 30 mlSweet Vermouth
  • 1 oz 30 mlCherry Heering
  • 1 oz 30 mlOrange Juice
  • shaken
  • coupe
  • Orange twist

Method

  1. Add blended Scotch, sweet vermouth, cherry heering and orange juice to a shaker.
  2. Shake hard with ice for 15 seconds.
  3. Strain into a chilled coupe.
  4. Garnish with an orange twist. Squeeze it over the top.
